Michael Herron for Denton City Council District 1

Government that Governs Best Listens to its Citizens.

My Pledge

Respect and Support Neighborhoods

  • Listen to residents and respond promptly to concerns.
  • Include neighbors early in City discussions about actions likely to affect them directly.
  • Protect neighborhoods from inappropriate development.
  • Protect existing housing that’s affordable: small, older, single-family houses & duplexes.
  • Encourage eligible neighborhoods to form historic districts.

Provide for Public Safety

  • Support Police, Fire and EMS in personnel, equipment, training and mental & physical health & wellness needs.
  • Support a long-term City commitment to a Police K-9 program with multiple specialties.
  • Support new EMS shift lieutenant positions.

Respond to Community Concerns and Fulfill Past Promises

  • Call for discussion of a temporary moratorium on multi-family permit applications.
  • Restore City support for quality-of-life events important to the community, including Arts & Jazz, Redbud Festival, Kiwanis Turkey Roll Bike rally, etc.
  • Schedule construction of Quiet Zones near Mingo already approved on 2 bond packages.

Protect Your Tax Dollar$

  • Seek maximum return through leveraging, partnerships, debt reduction, paying cash when possible, etc.
  • Reduce the tax rate by shrinking expenditures, expanding revenue sources through Economic Development (ED).

Champion Economic Development

  • Robust ED creates many new jobs, including quality mid-level and high-paying jobs. These provide long-term, stable tax revenue to the City, which reduces the tax burden on residents.
